A week has passed and I’m still energized by Jakamo Overnight Internship Recruitment Camp 2014! Seven top notch campers were selected from over 30 applicants. And what a group we had! Students from SeAMK, TAMK, TUT and VAMK equipped with great spirit and attitude made the event unforgettable.

The campers were challenged by a bunch of tasks. After warming up with spaghetti and marshmallows (that’s right) the VAMK rector Mr. Tauno Kekäle inspired campers to ponder what will be the next big thing in software development. Next came tricky challenges, which required logical thinking and problem solving skills. Third one was the actual overnight assignment which was all about creativity. During the nightly hours the teams had to create a totally new concept for a feature or a new application to Jakamo. All the Jakamo users will find out quite soon what the teams came up with…

Final task took place the next morning and after midnight sauna and few hours of sleep the programming assignments were probably not as simple as they normally would have been. However, results were great and everybody performed as ready-made professionals. All and all, the tasks were accomplished with high standard and I’m happy to say that there are such a talented software developers graduating in upcoming years.

Despite of working hard, the tasks weren’t to be taken too seriously. The main criteria for the person we seek was to have a great spirit and good attitude. And based on these criteria we could have hired any one of the campers. And perhaps we will in the future because the most important goal for the camp was to get to know enthusiastic software developers whilst having a good time together!
